I made the mistake of leaving an old can of WD-40 on a nice wood mantel for a couple days. The can leaked and left a ring of WD-40 around its base that soaked into the wood. It left a light ring stain and that awful smell. I can only smell it when I'm up close, but is there a good way to draw the WD-40 out or neutralize the smell? I already tried sprinkling some baking soda on it, putting a stack of paper towels on it, and a stack of heavy books on that overnight. It didn't work. Thanks for any help.

WD40 is wax and kerosene. It's not going to be easy to unwax the wood.
The kerosene may be drawn out using a paste made from laundry detergent powder.
On the other hand seeing as the wood is presumably uncoated, paint stripper may be worth a try too.
