In the place I've just bought, two dimmer switches are coexisting badly in a box. I found the switch plate askew, because the two switches are too far apart. It does not seem possible to push the right hand switch and closer to the left hand switch.

The literature for your switch clearly addresses the snap-off tabs on the sides of each switch. They relate to power ratings due to heat generated in dimming switches.
In short, you'll need to bend the tabs on one side of one or both switches until they snap off. Start with one switch and see if they fit. Remove only what's necessary.
