I'm trying to put together the parts for simple hot/cold brass valves for an outdoor shower. I found these cross handles that seem to have a 1/2" cartridge - however I'm not sure if there's a universal valve body to put them in.

Basically I want to make something like this tee with the valve coming out of the top (an elbow config instead of a tee would also probably work), I am assuming its not as simple as buying a brass tee for this haha?

Is this a standard thing I can buy? what should I search for, I have been having no luck and don't really know the correct terminology to search for. Or should I stop trying and just try to buy the entiree tee, valve, and handle assembly all together?

Universal valve body - not on this planet, or in this universe. If you "found the parts" somewhere with part numbers that should lead to what valve bodies they fit. Whether those valve bodies are made anymore is not guaranteed, however. Replacement parts continue for some years after the entire valve is discontinued, normally.

The parts in the second picture are valve bodies, not tees.

An additional issue you may have to address is lack of scalding protection, which most plumbing codes require for shower valves for several decades now, to prevent burns to people with reduced mobility (who can't simply get out of the shower quickly if it's too hot) be that from lack of age or too much age or other reasons. If using "dumb valves" the hot water supplied to the dumb valve has to be tempered to a suitable temperature by a tempering valve.
