We've got a large patio bifold door in the house - about 270cm wide, and we were thinking about putting a curtain in front to stop the chill in the cold weather.
The aperture is pretty deep - 29cm - so I'm presuming that's the outer block work, some insulation and then some inner blocks. I'm also presuming that an aperture that wide is going to heed a pretty sturdy lintel to keep it up.
However, I don't know how deep the lintel is likely ro be. If I drill into the nearside of the ceiling, furthest from the window, is that likely to be all plasterwork and masonry and therefore safe and straightforward with everyday tools? And if it is likely to be metal through the full depth, am I safe drilling screw holes in it and what tools/screws do I need (I've got a decent power drill but no bits specifically for metal)?
