I want to use a digital wifi thermostat. My furnace (furnace only) uses 2 wires in my classic thermostat. My home however was wired with a 4 strand in the wall. Can I use the black wire in the wall wiring and attach directly to this transformer then to C? According to the my following thermostat comes down hooks to gas valve and other goes to transformer. Gas valve comes back to transformer.

The good news is you have a 24V transformer from which you get the C wire.

The bad news is you have to find out which side is 120V and which is 24V
