I'm looking to replace my first light switch, and the old single pole I'm taking out only has two terminals, one of which is marked as G. The new switch has two seemingly unlabeled terminals on tye right side (though the top one has something that looks like a cross between a 2 and a 9) and also has a ground terminal on the other side.

I can't find info on the old switch online, and I am wondering if there is a chance that the wire that was attached to the G terminal was a ground wire. I'm guessing not because there is no third wire to then complete the circuit, but want to make sure I hook the new one up correctly.

If it isn't a ground wire, does it matter which wire goes on which terminal on the right-hand side? Does the G mean something else I should consider when attaching the wires to the terminals on the new switch.

I've read that it would be ok to not connect anything to the ground wire on this new switch—is that right? Thanks in advance for your help!
