I have an existing wood-framed wall (2x6 16" o.c.) to which I want to add a new window (sized for a 30"x48" rough opening). The existing stud layout is very much not optimal for using any of them as jack or king studs (without placing the window in a spot that looks lopsided), but at least one side is also close enough to make it difficult to toenail in a new king stud (drawing on the left).

Is the approach pictured in the drawing on the right reasonable? I'm mostly asking because I can't find any examples of it with pretty extensive searching (other than folks narrowing down an existing window opening). The main downsides I could see are needing a longer and potentially larger header, and not having doubled-up studs to secure the window into (but a single 2x6 seems more than strong enough).

two options for window framing: new king studs on left, existing studs as king studs on right with longer header and inset opening
