I would like to open the wall on the bottom of an existing staircase to match the other open side (first 5 steps). I don’t believe there is a middle riser, but the basement steps do run below. Can I notch out the top of the stringer on the closed side once I remove the wall? Any other options to open up the lower section of the wall and make it esthetically pleasing as possible?
