I had a contract to rip & repave an existing driveway.
The contract included "excavate existing asphalt driveway"; "install new NY DOT approved RCA Base".
The contractor excavated the asphalt. Then regraded, and added about half an inch of new RCA (4 large excavator buckets full). Then 2 inches of asphalt on top.
When I asked him, he said this is normal. If he had excavated the whole thing it would be 5K more for dumping, and then the new base would need a month to settle.
Am I getting ripped off?
