I installed something called a Double Side Awning for my mom a few weeks back. It's basically a dual sun shade where two screens can pull out to the sides. It's nearly 7 foot tall and the main roller posts mounts to the deck floor. I noticed that even in light winds, this tall structure is wobbling around and a screw came loose at the bottom. My plan is to stabilize it better by putting some support bracket through the middle and bolt it to the deck rail. I drew up a quick image above so you can sort of visualize the setup.
The "H" bracket can only fit through the middle between the two screen posts. The posts themselves are each about 3-4 inches wide. The gap between them is about 1/4 inch, so the bracket must be around that width or smaller. The back part of the posts are about 4 inches away from the deck rail. So this "H" bracket should probably be like a foot long. The "H" part of the brackets that fit around the posts, should not have screws in them, as they'll tear up the screens internally inside the posts. I'd just like the "H" part to "grab" the posts from the front and back sides and then I can bolt the other side of the bracket down to the deck rail. Maybe part of the "H" bracket is adjustable to account for different post widths. If an "H" bracket cannot be found, then even a "T"-shaped bracket would definitely help.
I don't even know what they would call this bracket, if any exist. I wouldn't know what to search for on Google, couldn't find anything so far. Any ideas or alternatives would be greatly appreciated.
