I plan on adding floor to ceiling closets in my '50s era house, and before I go any further I was hoping for some insight into if these beams are load bearing or not.

In the attic, all of the floor joists are going parallel to this closet beam which makes me think that these are not load bearing.

The thick double beam in your pics is a header for the closet opening.

It needs to stay if the opening is staying there. If you intend to make the closet opening taller, you will need an engineering report. ( We have no pics of what is above.)

This could be quite an expense, so you will need to ask yourself if the extra 12-14 inches in height is worth it.
