I'm a new homeowner, and I've messed up. I need advice from folks about how to safely button up a lead paint situation I uncovered but can't deal with right now. I essentially want to pause this until I can afford to hire folks to do this the right way.
Occupants of the condo - 1 adult, one 90 lb dog.
The situation:
When I moved in, I noticed paint on my trim was sloughing, and due to the age of my home, I bought some lead tests. I peeled a small bit off, tested the area, tested the paint chip. No lead. Did a little bit on another area, same results.
A few days ago I got bored on a work call and got into the zone of scraping the trim around different area in the same room. I covered maybe 3/4 of the frame. No respirator, no gloves. I got lazy, and left the paint scraps everywhere and didn't clean up because I'm a hot mess and I also got distracted. I went to bed in the same clothes even.
Today, I was looking at the in progress project and figured I might as well test again. Lead everywhere, apparently. Tested in a few different spots. Yep, lead. And flakes and dust from the paint has been chilling on the ground, window sills, my desk, my clothes, etc.
Just now, I've swept up the area, and wiped down the surfaces with a damp cloth, but I have been running the ceiling fan and the ac for a few days.
Obviously, I'm horrified. So far, no symptoms and my dog also seems fine. I need advice from the community of the fastest, cheapest method to limit further exposure and essentially pause this conundrum while I move funds around to pay someone to do this the right way. Thoughts?
