Home is a split level- that is, living room/kitchen on one half of the house, garage and bedrooms above on the other half. Just behind the garage is a small living space (rear of the house, which is beneath the master bedroom).
In this rear room, there is a 7-8ft load bearing interior wall. It supports the floor joists of the master bedroom above, as well as the shallow attic and roof above the master bedroom.
Anyhow — I have a carpenter installing a header on this 7-8ft wall. My basic research seems to tell me that I need to account for a 50psf live load (one bedroom 30psf, and attic/roof, 20psf). His plan is to install (2) 2x10’s sandwiched with a piece of 3/4 plywood. Two king/one jack studs on either side. I think this is ok… but figured I’d ask the internet for some input.
Thanks!
