We want to put a long gazebo (like the 12x14 Yardistry one) in this space in our backyard. So there are two issues we want to address if we’re going to put the time and money into this project:

  1. Leveling— If it was just dirt here, we’d level it and potentially pour concrete (also level). What we have instead are a bunch of 4x4 concrete slabs with 2-3 inches between each one. Of course if money were no object we’d just put a giant concrete pad in the whole space. Barring that, what our options? Would it make sense to pour just a little concrete just onto the existing slabs? My other idea was first was to just cut some extra wood and add it on the bottom of the legs that will be on lower pads that are lower. Probably a hack idea but thought I’d mention.

  2. Gaps between the concrete pads—the gaps are several inches lower than the concrete, PLUS they attract weeds. So using chairs here is annoying bc you’ll “fall” into the gaps, and the weed upkeep is a PITA (I neglected to Preen this year). What are our options to prevent these issues? My thought was to put down a weed barrier and then fill with tamped chat. How bad of a solution would that be? I suppose another option would be pouring concrete to fill the gaps but that seems like it would come out sloppily and uneven.
