They've been growing for 3 months so I assume they're at the end of their lifespan- but I want to identify this. Is this a disease or just some sun beating down on it?

Those are disease spots—most likely angular leaf spot (bacterial) or early downy mildew—not sunscorch. You’ll see yellow halos around the lesions; remove affected leaves, improve air flow, and consider a copper spray to control it.
