My kitchen aid dishwasher tripped the fuse box mid cycle. It’d trip shortly again after restarting the cycle. It also had a burned plastic smell.

I discovered a burned wire/plug to the main control board and now has a burned plastic smell when running. I somehow got it to run full cycle by using quick wash and unplugging a set of blue wires (thought they were for the heating element but the dishwasher seems to be heating the water still so not sure). Not sure if it’s the quick wash or unplugging the blue wire that got it to not trip the fuse anymore.

Any idea of the root cause and recommendations for a fix? It has a plastic smell from the burned plug/wire.

STOP RUNNING YOUR DISHWASHER

It tripped your breaker due to overcurrent. Don't test this over-current protection. Your appliance needs servicing before it burns down your house.

Danger

It is not safe to continue using that appliance

Your next problem could be fire

It might have been just loose connection on the plug, which led to arcing

Turn off all power open it and inspect what happened

At least you need to replace the plug

There is no good fix for this. Your choice to replace is probably the most economical one available. The visible damage indicates that both the melted connector and the main control board need to be replaced. It is unlikely that the connector can be replaced without replacing the whole wiring harness, a job of an hour or more for a technician. Together with parts, that's well over half the cost of the machine.
