Do I need to prime the mud for self adhesive wallpaper?

I've applied the joint compound, sanded it down. Is it necessary to prime the mud before putting self adhesive wallpaper on it? I don't plan on taking it down or painting over it in the future. Would priming the wall change how it sticks etc?

Is there a way to reduce or hide streaks on newly primed drywall before we paint?

We just finished priming our newly orange-peel textured walls with a drywall primer. When it dried we noticed vertical streaks on the walls, about 6"-8" apart ~ we think they're paint roller demarcations. These streaks are only noticeable on walls…
